As I'm in urgent need of better weather, I can't help but dream of indian summer and wandering the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. At the time I was no longer blogging so I didn't take proper pictures of the places we visited, which is a pity cause we discovered a lot of cool places (check out my NYC hotspot map). But for some reason I did at Five Leaves.
On a sunny Sunday, we decided to head to Williamsburg. Of course we wanted to have the best (and most touristic) view over the Manhattan Skyline so we first took the Brooklyn Bridge to DUMBO. As it was still early, around 9 a.m., we were basically the only ones walking the bridge which made the incredible views even better.
After the obligatory pictures, we tried to figure out the shortest way to get to Williamsburg. For those of you who don't know this neighborhood: it's mostly known for its hipster culture, art scene and nightlife. Soon we found out that the public transport from Dumbo to Williamsburg is quite cumbersome so we decided to walk. We walked through some very interesting (and some less appealing) neighborhoods and finally reached the part of Bedford Avenue with a mix of cute shops and little cafés after a 1,5 hour walk. We were starving and close to trembling since we hadn't had breakfast yet. Best idea, Maxime #eyeroll.
Anyway, Five Leaves was on top of my list and apparently for a good reason. Upon arrival we found out that there was a one hour wait to get a table but since we were basically drained we decided to grab a coffee to go, to sit down on the bench in front of the little restaurant and to watch the locals stroll by. Even though we were pretty hungry, I don't think I ever felt happier sitting there in the sun, next to the love of my life with an iced latte. Can we please go back? :)
After an hour we got seated and after a brief look on the menu, we made our order. A mimosa and a sage scrambled egg sandwich for me and a coffee and a Big Brekkie for Rik. We also ordered the ricotta pancakes to share. We both loved everything we ordered so we immediately understood why this place is so popular. I love how you can get fluffy pancakes at basically every brunch place in New York but the ones at Five Leaves were the best we had during our trip. I seriously still dream about them.
As it has been 5 months since we've been to Five Leaves, it's quite difficult to give a detailed review but I didn't want to keep this one to myself. I just remember that from the moment we arrived, to the moment we were seated, till the moment we left, I felt very much at ease because of the laid back atmosphere. This place is quite no-nonsense; what you see is what you get and that's exactly the way I like it. In my opinion it was worth the wait so I really recommend going there. Do keep in mind that it gets crowded on weekends so try to come early or on a weekday.
