On Thursday I took a day off and met up with my mom in Antwerp for brunch. We do this every 3 months or so but should actually make it a monthly habit since she's my favorite person to catch up with (moms don't judge & always give you the right advice you know). I'd heard some good things about STAY Boutique Bar so we went there so I could tick it off my list.
When you just walk by, you wouldn't think this cute boutique offers a little brunch & lunch bar as well, but it does. When you enter the store you first get into the clothes, jewelry and accessory "section" which is definitely worth taking a look at. When you move along, you enter the second part of the store which mainly focuses on interior items and kitchen utilities. In that same section you'll find several small tables and a big one to enjoy STAY's fresh, homemade dishes.
We were welcomed by two very friendly women, which I suppose are the shop owners, and sat down at a table for two. We were in very much need of our coffee fix since it was cold and wet outside. Within minutes one of the women wrote down our order and we received two cups of all black coffee right away. While waiting for our food to arrive, we took the time to take a look at all the nice gadgets throughout the store. I added some items to my wish list so feel free to contact me (my birthday is on September 29th ;)).
My mom ordered the Lazy Breakfast which consists of a coffee or tea, a fresh orange juice or a fresh organic apple juice, bread, a croissant, sweet spreads, savory fillings and scrambled eggs. I decided to go for the scrambled eggs and toast which is a bit more special than your regular "eggs and toast". You'll get two pieces of toast with guacamole spread and scrambled eggs. If desired you can add slices of bacon or smoked salmon. As I was quite hungry, I ordered the yoghurt with granola as well.
The food here is SO yum and fresh?! The bread is just the right amount of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the salmon immediately melted in my mouth and even though I prefer sliced avocado over guacamole, it was the perfect addition to the dish. The eggs and toast were more than enough to leave me satisfied and full so I had a hard time finishing my yoghurt (but I did anyway since it was too good not to eat).
I would really recommend coming here. Both women are so nice, which makes it an utterly great experience when visiting. The food is fresh and of good quality, which I love. I prefer simple food of refined quality with little ingredients over fancy, over the top dishes, which lack of quality. Less is more. As the place is a bit small, I'd suggest going with one or two friends instead of a large group to maintain the cosy feeling. Their lunch and weekend specials sound really great as well so I'm definitely going back!
