As Rik and I couldn't properly celebrate Valentine's day on Tuesday (because super busy at work) we went out for dinner at George WPA on Saturday. It wasn't the first time we went there but it became a favorite of ours so we just had to go back.
Some people claim they don't like the service at George WPA but we, on the contrary, are more than pleased with it. In fact, it's the kind of service Belgian restaurants often lack of. As usual we got served with a smile and immediately remembered why we love coming here. The restaurant feels casual yet trendy and the marble & wooden combo is totally my cup of tea. I can't help but feel like a Parisian when I'm choosing what to order from their classic French cuisine.
We got a cosy spot in the back of the restaurant where we had a nice view on the kitchen. I love restaurants that have a no secrets policy when it comes to their kitchen. As we watched the chef add the last little touches to his plates, I got more and more excited.
Rik ordered the iconic steak frites with the béarnaise sauce and I went for the catch of the day: grilled sea bass with lemon. The crispy, thin fries (my favorite) and the fresh salad on the side are the perfect addition to the juicy meat (according to Rik) and the perfectly grilled fish. I love how they manage to create the right flavors with just a handful of ingredients.
As I'm a huge crême brulée lover my choice was already made at the beginning when we first checked the menu. Rik went for the moelleux au chocolat but he ate way faster than I did so I didn't get the chance to try it myself #sadpanda. Both desserts left us happy and satisfied :) Also, I so have a weakness for their plates and cups which are all marked with "George"!
I'd recommend bringing a visit to George WPA with a group of friends to catch up over a glass of wine and some good food or a romantic night out with the boyfriend. As it had been snowing the entire day, it was the perfect ending to our time in Amsterdam. There are 7 Georges all over Amsterdam, each with their own features but with quite some resemblances as well. So far we've only gone to George WPA in Amsterdam Zuid but I'd love to try the other ones out as well. George's tag line is "The proverbial French-brasserie-in-New-York... In Amsterdam" and I couldn't have described it better myself.
